Odyssey Italia

10 – 24 September 2017

A luxury rally from Liguria to Tuscany, via Corsica and Sardinia

Latest News

Inspired by ancient myths and modern legends, the luxurious Odyssey Italia Rally runs over 14 days from 10-24 September, starting on the Italian Riviera and visiting the Mediterranean islands of Corsica and Sardinia before finishing in glorious Tuscany; you’ll find more route details in our Recce Report, which you may read via the link on this page.

This is the first Rally Round event to be designed by Kim Bannister, internationally-renowned for his previous work on the Peking to Paris Motor Challenge, Flying Scotsman, Classic Safari, Trans-America Challenge and many more, and Odyssey Italia is a rally he has long dreamed of organizing. Fabulous roads through sun-drenched mountains and sparkling coastal landscapes, iconic locations and historic treasures, superb four- and five-star hotels, exquisite cuisine and good company combine to make this the most exciting and exclusive event we have yet devised. Our relaxed schedule allows for leisurely sightseeing and refreshment breaks and all our island hotels are adjacent to fine beaches, so competitors may even enjoy sunbathing, swimming or diving at beautiful locations such as Porto Cervo on Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda.

All of a sudden, it seems, our adventure is almost at an end, as crews today drove the penultimate day’s route from Grosetto to Siena. Overall rally leader Bill Cleyndert spoke for many when he arrived at the Garden Hotel, overlooking the magnifient city, and declared it ‘A great day’s rallying! Very beautiful scenery, lovely roads and delicious food. Well done Rally Round!’

Competitors continued their enthusiastic discussion of the day’s route and refreshment stops over dinner, and also spoke of what they had seen on their early evening excursions into the heart of Siena, which was crowded with colourful flag bearers and drummers celebrating the Giraffa district’s victory in the Palio di Siena horse race on July 2.

We shall soon be enjoying our own victory celebrations in Ciocco. However, the run from Siena to the finish will be slightly shorter than planned, as we were informed by the Italian police only this afternoon that one thousand cyclists will be taking part in a public road race tomorrow, prompting the closure of part of the rally route. Renowned Clerk of the Course and route designer Kim Bannister immediately drove out to plot and document a revised route around the affected area, copies of which will be ready for the competitors to pick up in the morning. The first car leaves at 09.01.
